The line offers a variety of styles that range from pumps, kitten heels, evening sandals, and wedges, with unique fabrications and constructions such as padded insoles, flex sole bottoms, and micro-fiber uppers. With such distinguishing qualities, these versatile shoes are ideal for a casual day, a night out, or a meeting in the boardroom.
When Charles David first brought European shoes to the American market in 1987 as a wholesale distributor, the impact on the fashion world was immediate: The company was quickly recognized as a leader in women’s footwear. Just a year later, the first Charles David retail store opened on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, and became an instant hot-spot for fashion-conscious, trend-setting clientele. With astounding success and growth every since, Charles David today is a global company with three internationally recognized footwear lines, expansion into the Hong Kong, Singapore and London and 26 retail stores in the U.S. Charles David has also developed a powerful wholesale division, selling the lines to all major department stores and specialty stores throughout America.
Despite its size, Charles David is a family-owned business that controls all aspects of the shoe brand: Design, retail, advertising, marketing, public relations, operations and distribution are all managed in-house.
But the essence of the company’s success, according to CEO and President Charles Malka, is the beauty, style, comfort and quality of Charles David shoes. Through effective marketing strategies, this has been consistently communicated to consumers. “For our customer, shoes are not just an accessory, they are a major component to her everyday style,” Malka says.
Charles David retail stores showcase the company’s three lines — Charles David, Charles by Charles David and select styles from the collection of the recently launched Exchange by Charles David. All are created by the in-house design team and manufactured in Spain, Italy and Asia. Some styles are showcased in stores one full season before being introduced to the wholesale division. Store personnel are instructed to test the newest styles and to identify trends in consumers’ choices, thus providing valuable information for wholesale buyers.
