The history of our name originates from a trip to Tennessee where our first sales manager was traveling and visited at a friend’s house for a fried catfish and hush puppy dinner. When he asked how hush puppies (deep-fried corn dough balls) were given their name, his friend told him that farmers used them to quiet their barking dogs.
In the 50’s, “barking dogs” was another name for sore feet, and the idea that comfortable Hush Puppies could sooth aching feet was established. Within just one year of introduction, the suede shoes were sold internationally and are now sold in over 110 countries around the world.
Hush Puppies provide a large range of sizes in both the men’s and women’s lines. The extended width offering of narrow to extra-wide ensures that anyone can find the right shoe for him or her.
Classic styling and comfort for women seeking value-priced dress and tailored styles.
The breed that you’ll most recognize as the ‘face’ of Hush Puppies is a basset hound. Customers instantly bonded with the dog when we used it after our start in 1958. In most of the international countries that we do business in, the basset hound is not recognized by the breed name, but rather affectionately as the Hush Puppies dog.
